Arnold Abney Obituary

Arnold Eugene Abney of Steelville, Missouri passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024 at the age of 91 years, 9 months and 2 days surrounded by  his family. 

He was born July 23, 1932 in Goodwater, MO to Porter and Letha Parks Abney. Arnold entered into the U.S. Army serving his country honorably from 1952 to 1954. After returning home, he became a union delivery truck driver working out of St. Louis. After 23 years, Arnold retired in 1976.

On October 25, 1952 in Jonesboro, AR, he was united in marriage to Betty June Brown and to this union three children were born.

Arnold attended the Steelville Assembly of God Church.

He was a member of the Ozark Trail Blazers for many years. He loved riding horses, raising them and spent many hours breaking a few. He also won the wild cow race six times straight. Arnold also enjoyed fishing and turkey, deer and squirrel hunting. He loved raising watermelon and was known for his beautiful watermelon garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Porter and Leta Abney; son, Arnold Lee Abney; brothers, Herman (Hilda) Abney, Leman (Martha) Abney, Arthur Abney, sisters, Vernice (Junies) Engelhardt, Bertha (Leonard) Thornton, Velma (Paul) Byrd, Shirley (Bob) Herr, Verda (Thurman) Hawthorne, Norma Jean (Radis) Skaggs; brothers-in-law, Robert Brown and Junior Brown; and sister-in-law, Verla Brown. 

He will be sadly missed by his wife of almost 72 years, Betty Abney; daughters, Karen (Jon) Troutt and Crystal (Rodney) Bouse all of Steelville, MO; seven grandchildren, Jonny (Tiffany) Troutt, Jason (Clarissa) Troutt, Justin (Krystal) Troutt, Brandon (fiancé, McKayla) Bouse, Damon Bouse, Makayla (Ryan) Fetters, Caitlin Bouse, seven great-grandchildren, Lilly and Megan Troutt, Karlee, Calvin and Kymber Troutt, Emileigh Troutt, Oaklynn Fetters and Baby Fetters on the way; 

Sisters-in-law, Shirley Abney of  St. Louis, MO and Josephine Brown of Davisville, MO ; brothers-in-law, Terry Brown and Jack (Vicki) Brown of Davisville, MO and David Brown of Steelville, MO; other relatives; and friends.

The Family received friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2024 with Rev. Jerry Beers and Rev. Harrison Brown officiating. Music of ”I`ll Fly Away” and “I,m Getting Ready to Leave This World” was played and sung on guitar by Rev. Jerry Beers. Special memories were read by Rev. Jerry Beers that was written by granddaughter, Makayla. 

Committal prayer and interment were in the Martin-Trask Cemetery, Cherryville, MO. 

Honored to be casketbearers were Jonny Troutt, Jason Troutt, Justin Troutt, Brandon Bouse, Jon Troutt and Ryan Fetters with Calvin Troutt and Damon Bouse as honorary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Arnold’s name to Power of Hope Equestrian Center, 3 Farm House Lane, Steelville, MO 65565
